Personal Development - How To Know When You’ve Burned Out

Posted in Personal Development on February 16th, 2010 by Ryan Biddulph –

Burn out is common among online entrepreneurs. Trying harder results in burning out. You can’t outwork the next guy so you try harder, and harder, and harder…..until you burn out.

What symptoms lead to burnout?

You’re Not Sleeping Enough

Sleep is for wimps, right? Wrong. Sleep is food for your soul. Unless you allow your soul to recharge you’re doomed. Seriously. Your body will burn out, and burn out really quick.

Get at least 6-8 hours of sleep a night or else you’ll risk breaking down. Your soul, mind, and body need sleep. Sleep is when God goes to work on you. All the tensions and anxieties of the day melt away as your conscious mind shuts up for 6 - 8 hours.

You Experience Bodily Tension

How does your body feel? Stress manifests as bodily tension. If your neck, back, and shoulders feel tension you might be burned out. Some people experience discomfort in their stomach.

Burnout is consistent with blockages experienced in the body. As these blockages build they become more noticeable. Honor them. Take it easier.

You’re Easily Agitated

When the dude cuts you off do you flip out? Do you normally react in this manner? Being emotionally and physically spent is taxing. When stressed you get frustrated more easily.

Your Work Is Subpar

Doing a bad job? Writing poor blog posts? You could be burned out.

You can’t be at your best when you’re feeling your worst. When acting inspired you’ll create the most value for inspiration. It’s tough to feel inspired when you’re burnt out.

Stepping Away From Your Work Is The Best Feeling On Earth

Does a vacation feel like a God-send? Then you’re burnt out. Learn to read the symptoms which led to that point.

When you desire a vacation, that’s OK. When you’re desperate for a vacation, something’s up. You might be burned out.

The Easy Way Is The Best

This has been the toughest fact for me to accept. In a hard work world I’ve have to learn to let go and grow. As Abraham-Hicks says, everything you want is downstream. Nothing is more important than feeling good, than feeling light about your work, your day.

Feel light and it’ll be virtually impossible to burn out. The second you feel burnout coming on you’ll stop and change direction.
